Bird ID anyone?

Post by lucky1 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:49 am

Saw this guy the day before the snow arrived.

A transient, stopover on his way north, doesn't spend summers here.

Think he took shelter in the open-door palm hut during Thursday's snow event, as he flew out of there this morning.
Very shy.
Only slightly smaller than a robin, which have arrived back too (and are probably starving...)

Click pic to enlarge.

Thanks for any ID help.

Is it like a common time for the Robin migration up to the North? Is it not too early, is it?

I think it's early, Igor, and they probably do now too.

Robins have been here for a couple of weeks.
Funny watching them peck at frozen ground.
Felt sorry for them, was going to go to the bait store and buy some worms for them.
Then the ground thawed and they were finding all sorts of goodies.

But this new guy--while he may be related to a robin--is never seen here in summer so he keeps going north after this stopover.

Will look for my Bird ID book...

Igor,

I'd fail miserably attempting another language, so you're miles ahead of me. :D :D :laughing6:
