Sure hope so.

John encouraged me to up-pot my Streltzia as it was in a too-tiny pot.
I had read somewhere that they'll bloom earlier if pot-bound.

But since giving the roots more room, and beefing up fertilizer with more Potash (K) (0-0-20), this has developed.
Looks different than the new leaf spike (directly below it)

Thanks John!
Good advice as always.

Barb

Nice work, Barb! I believe Don in Kansas also has a BoP that will flower soon.

There is a Strelitzia nicolai at the Gage Park greenhouse in Hamilton, ON that was flowering last month:

The thing is nearly a foot diameter at its base and it is growing right up to the top of the glasshouse, 18 feet up!
This was there too..

Adam,

Beautiful BoP flower photo... :P
Never realized how large they grow ... John has a BoP in his garage that's scraping the ceiling; probably weighs 500 pounds in its box.

I've heard of several palm/glasshouses in Ontario.
Those folks are to be commended for their vision in constructing them for the public.

Vancouver has one that was threatened to be dismantled last year for lack of funds.
Fortunately funding was found at the 11th hour.

Nice Albizia julibrissin (sp?)
