How hardy are they?
Do they like damp conditions or are they a desert plant?

Pachypodium lamerei & geayi , listed as a zone 9 at 32F.
I had some seedlings down in the low 20's this winter, ( not by choice, but that is a long and painfull story) as a result, these and my aloes picked up some red discoloration but have since outgrown it. They seem to be a little more hardy than what's listed.

Prefers desert conditions, drought & heat tolerant.
and really, really sharp pointy things all over it 8)

At least 12" of growth this year with the warm temps.
Going to try and get one of these to bloom in the next few seasons.

In addition to the one two lil ones you gave me, I have two adults, one about your size and another that is about twice that big.
I have them in the bedroom. What is it with these in the Winter? I know they drop leaves or someting like that????

These can go dormant and drop their leaves, if so just treat it as you would a cactus during the Winter - very little water until growth starts up again.

You have these in your bedroom? After re-potting mine this year I would be afraid to be in a dark room with one :D

The other one...
