Phoenix Robellini in bloom for 2nd time in 5 years.
My Phoenix Robellini is in bloom for the 2nd time in 5 years. I bought it (2 gallon pot) from a roadside produce stand here in SOuth Jersey for 10 bucks five years ago and it is thriving. Presently the top shoots are up to my neck. I have it repotted in a large pot. it spends winter in a sunny SE facing window on the front sun porch, nights into the low 40s / high 30s. It is an amazing plant...Just beware the spines!!!!! ACK!!

Thanks Erik...TerdalFarm wrote:Excellent photographs as always, Mike.
I always like it when a palm flowers as I think I'm doing something right. My Phoenix have never flowered, though--you are definitely doing something I'm not. Good job!
I actually think this is probably the palm that gets the least TLC. It is a beaut though and getting so big!
Hope you are well during all the BS going on there. Sending good vibes ur way.
Mike

Mike, that's the healthiest looking P.roebellenii I've seen yet.
How many hours of shade daily?
Maybe the Black Cat is the secret.
So is it a female?

Thanks Barb.....It gets full sun for about 5 hours daily and shade for the rest...It is a beauty. It is getting huge. Never even had a problem with scale or insects. It even goes to high 30s in the sun porch at night in winterlucky1 wrote:Mike, that's the healthiest looking P.roebellenii I've seen yet.

Organic is so much safer...I like their philosophy...!
Besides, that PDP is the finest I've seen in a long time (of killing them myself )

Mike thats a wicked PDP ! I hope mine isnt to far behind that one! They really take off outside dont they? Full sun or shade, they dont seem to really care to much IMO. I like the spines. SO does my cat, she like to run against them when the plant is in the house ... yes, shes very strange.. looks sort of liek the sign on the gate!
I love these things! I cant wait till my canary island date palm gets that big!
