Looks like a gametophyte. Did some spores from a fern or other plant get in the soil?

Not as far as I know. But the seeds were wild collected, and ficus seeds are small. Its possible that some tree fern or fern spores got in. Thats what I thought it was..

You may need to mist spray them so you can induce fern fertilization.

Depends on how bad you want them to live-
but maybe you'll get away without needing too.

Perhaps some distilled water at least.

This is one of three tree ferns that started growing on its own out of the drainage hole in a cymbidium pot that sat next to some large tree ferns. Hopefully you will get to see what you have growing there turn into an adult. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/32696326@N07/5013212606/" title="Dicksonia by hellos1011, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/501 ... 6de21f.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Dicksonia" /></a>

I would love to live in an area where a tree fern can just come up on its own! :P
