Copernicia Fallaensis

Post by BILL MA » Wed Jan 26, 2011 1:19 pm

Here's another cool one that blows your mind just looking at the fronds.

Picture does Zero justice trust me. These palms are crazy looking, I went back several times to look at it in different light.

That ponytail palm must be on steroids
Had no idea they get to be such a nice looking tree.
Probably older than the Ark, huh?

Copernicia...drool!
The fronds have a "movement" to them, almost like they're, well...electric or something.

I can believe that the photo doesn't do it justice, there's something really special about Copernicia palms.

Here's my fav Copernicia hospita photo (even though the guy labelled it as a Bizzie):
I emailed him ages ago and he agreed it was a C.hospita, but obviously hasn't changed it.

Thanks!

Everyone's shots look fantastic!

99% of my pics were taken with my BB, so the quality isn't going to be great. Here are a few of my favourite pics from my trip to Egypt in June/July:

Arriving at the Aswan Botanical Gardens, on an island in the middle of the Nile. Behind the trunk of the washy on the left, you can just make out a Cocos nucifera. The double-trunking palm on the far right is a Hyphaene thebaica.
Image

Hyphaene thebaica again. If I had known how much the seeds were going for on RPS, I would have made an effort to find some there!
Image

Some nice Phoenix near the Valley of the Kings.
Image

More great Phoenix at the hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh, looking out over the Red Sea.

Cameron those shots are outstanding! Wow.

But I question the Hyophorbe lagenicaulis ID.
That pic shows a palm with a fan leaf, whereas bottle palms have pinnate leaves.
Was the tree labelled as such?

Got any more pics of the Botanical Garden?

Thanks for catching that, Barb! It's a Hyphaene thebaica  I was thinking about the similar spelling of Hyophorbe at the time lol.

Edit: Barb, there are more pics of the garden here: viewtopic.php?t=2811&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I can't touch those photos!
My "best" of this week (Tuesday) is a cell phone snap of a palm growing indoors at the Tulsa Zoo. The staff member I asked wasn't sure what it was but said he'd look it up for me.

Burrell Boom is a nice village. Close to Belize City for airport and shopping, but remote enough to feel rural.
Have you been there?

You can tell it`s a filifera on the left by the deeper and thinner divided segments on the fronds, fatter trunk, more of the cotton fibres, the olive green colored fronds, and lighter orange trunk color. The American cotton palm. http://www.delange.org/PalmNative/PalmNative.htm
