cool........I'll have to look for some coral next time I go swimming! There are limestone deposits here in New England....so coral was here in the past! We could use another 10F in water temp to enjoy it....we usually top out at 70F or so in summer.

Erik, the Trachies naturalizing in Switzerland's forests are proof.
Haven't seen the Sabal minor story though.

Jesse,
read this article:
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1 ... 328.x/full
It focuses on Switzerland, but refers to BC Trachy.
There are also YouTube videos of this from BC you can search for.

P.S. I am interested in this phenomena, but am focusing on Sabal minor.

it says i have to sign up. Ill find the article in a bit. Thanks again.
Ive always been interested in in this also. I used to have an article on the supposed old range of palms in north america. In Drumhellar Alberta ( Royal Tyrell Museum), they have the Cretaceous garden, in which modern representitives ( or in some cases still living) plants from that area are kept. They have a big Sabal there. Unfortunatly I cant remember the name, but I might still have a pic of it somewhere.
Also, I bought a Chinese fan palm a while back, and my mother commented that she found rocks with leaves like that around the shale mountains around here...
