Palm protection youtube video

Post by TerdalFarm » Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:26 pm

I love Scotty's youtube videos and so decided to make my own after work this evening.

It turns out it is a lot harder than it looks. The battery in the little digital camera kept getting cold and quitting so I had to make multiple takes. Also, I have a cold and had to keep clearing my throat. I got nervous somehow (despite being alone) and messed up plant names and temperatures. Editing is also a lot harder than it seems it should be.
Anyway, it should give you a sense of how I am protecting palms. I'd appreciate feedback on how I can do things better. My lows this week will be about 7 oF, depending on the winds. Not enough snow cover to make a difference.

Don,
it is 11 oF here right now.
The "palm hut" is, as I predicted when filming, -5 oC right now. (In my nervousness, I left off the "minus").
The final scene is also of winter. Just winter as I want it to be :D

Erik,
Nice to view your video...good job.
And what a wonderful way to close the video.

You've done a lot of work, hope everything makes it fine.
Jag is smart, getting some radiant heat through the window.

I hope your garbage cans and plastic teepees will stay in place through winter winds.

Your videos kick mines ass with those cool graphics plus the added bonus at the end! Your palm hut looks great! Looks like you'll need to give me some tips in how to make them look nice. Too bad about the huge sable! Man it's cold where you are!!!

Jim,
I'd rather hear that you, Don, Barb and Scotty approve this message :D

I panicked and bypassed the thermocubes tonight (another thread). As we speak, it is 40 oF in the palm hut despite being 15 oF in the air--and that is without the 250 w light--just the ceramic heater.

Wish I was in Belize like I was for the similar cold last January. --Erik
