Weather Network vs. Environment Canada

Hi All,

Well the inevitable has happened, and Siberia/the Arctic has descended upon southern Alberta . Looks like the arctic outflow will head into B.C. too. To what extent, The Weather Network and Environment Canada can never agree upon.

Was looking at forecasts for Calgary, Kelowna and Vancouver on both Weather Network and Environment Canada. Have you guys ever noticed how TWN always has more pessimistic ie. colder 5 day/ long term forecasts for cities in western Canada, as compared to EC? I don't know if this is the case for eastern cities too? I find TWN always tacks on ridiculous and unlikely lows, for places like Vancouver, at the end of a long term forecast-and they're rarely right!

Just my thoughts on the matter .

Good point Duncan.

Vancouver TV (Global) must use TWN, and even though they asked for latitude/longitude/postal code with the weather subscription, they're way off, especially in winter.
I find myself wondering why my place is 5 degrees warmer than they forecast for, say, 11 a.m.
...and there's no button to "unsubscribe".

I really like EC's weather format/forecasting, especially their Live Radar on my computer...feed for systems coming in, whereas live satellite often shows just high clouds.

Re % of precip on TWN:
30% = there's a 30 per cent chance you'll get a drop of rain during the entire day? or it'll rain for one-third the day?
They often report 40% precip for my city, and we get not a drop in a 24 hour period.
60% = a 5-minute sprinkle? or is it supposed to rain for more than half the day?
Never accurate.

Oh, and the "helpful" advice...sunscreen in the summer and checking antifreeze in the winter, warm jacket for school children, etc. etc.
Plus TWN's host(s) always stand in front of BC...get the hell out of the way...use a pointer. Or a robot with a laser pointer
