Safe to say Spring is here

Post by banana joe »

The days are warmer and the clear evenings above freezing now. This past Winter season we have not had a hard freeze here in the Southern Gulf Islands. My coldest minimum temp. for this past winter was -1.9 C. ( 28.6 F.) My last minimum temp. of 0 C. (32 F.) or lower was on Feb.25 when the temp. dropped to -0.8 C. ( 30.5 F.) The definition of a hard freeze is when the temps. drop to 26 F. ( -3.3 C.) or lower for 4 consecutive hours and all annual vegetation is killled. Just hasn't happened this past Winter. I like Spring!! Joe

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Temps on saturday are going to drop to -4C with an overnight low with -7C Spring is going away. Temps are going to rise to 1C on the first day of spring. But there is huge snowstorms coming. All they way into april still 1C!! with snow. I dont like where I live. I want to go back to florida and start growing palms.
They are calling for below normal temps. In may snow is coming we can still get and in june big frost.Cold spring is coming.

Listening to some of the conditions that the rest of you all are working with makes me feel not so bad about the mild-ish desert environment (if you can call a desert  mild lol) of the Boise valley.

Sorry to hear things are so rugged where you are yuccaman. Best wishes for sunny weather.

Spring

Post by Wes North Van »

I too noticed last night we had a perfectly clear night and we never went below 1C. No frost either. I would say spring has sprung. I will uncover my bananas this weekend. My lemon tree has never looked so good after a winter than it does this year. I am happy to see my brahea armata made it through the winter, My trachycarpus latisectus also made it through however I did keep it close to the house and under cover.
I continue to be impressed with c. micropadix. All three of mine have never shown damage in two winters now.

I do need sunny and warm weather and temps 16C And I worked and cleaned up my yard and I raked dead leaves Moved rocks and took dead plants out of my garden because there is warm weather coming and it changed and was very mad to see more snow. In Boise can see very summerlike chinook and in Vancouver the mountains block cold. We dont have any way to block cold in our area.
