Ceratozamia hildae ~ Bamboo Cycad
Fast growing and somewhat cold hardy.
(Reports of no leaf damage with temps into the teens)
Some more info: http://www.pacsoa.org.au/cycads/Ceratozamia/hildae.html
Just received a few seeds, will post the results.
Seeds,
This is the end that the radicle will emerge from, (hopefully
And the end that was attached to the cone,
Steve

Nice photography
Great closeups, Steve, especially that second picture.
You're so close the seed is breaking out in a sweat
Imagine a cycad that cones 5 years from seed..wow that is something.
Interesting common name.
As you know I've got a Bamboo Palm (or Reed palm, same diff.)
Slight resemblance in leaflets with my palm.

Thanks Barb!
Here's one that shows where the cracks will develop when the radicle emerges.
(as compared to Cycas seeds and the clam shell thing.
Seems like I've started collecting Ceratozamias lately, here's the C.latifolia,
(This has nice red emergent leaves)
And the rest of it,
Snuck these robusta types in during a recent warm spell Looking forward to seeing these fill out!

Steve,
I presume you're buying via mail order.
Amazed to see dormant but alive tender plants surviving shipping in mid-winter.
US mail is probably quicker than Canada Post
Very pretty Ceratozamia. I bet you've had to move your chair out of there...how do you find the space?
Impressed by the caudex size on your new robustas.
I couldn't even guess as to their age.

Barb,
They were listed as about ten years from seed, once everything fills out in the GH, I may have just enough room left to feed the fish
Priority Mail here will usually deliver within 3 days of being shipped, but always a gamble during the winter months.
(These came from Florida, and arrived during a stretch with 30*F lows)

steve you must store plants in every house in town. With every picture you show I wonder just how much stuff you have. Nice pics.

Kent,
I've lost track of what's around here at least a year ago...............
The larger Ceratozamia looks like it's getting ready to send up some fronds

Oooh, exciting!
Yes, it's well on its way to doing something.
From the size of that caudex I bet the leaves aren't puny.
You might have to open the door
Keep us posted.

Will have some photos as soon as it starts!
I'd be happy with green, but hoping these show bronze emergent leaves
The seeds are coming along, noticed the ends are bulging a bit, you can just see the cracks starting to develop.
