Trachy Nainital spear not slowed down by cold!

Planted out this Nainital mid-March, purchased from Barrie last year.
Expected that -6C and 4 inches of snow last week would halt growth of the emerging spear.
Invert a bucket over it during cold nights. Still growing nearly an inch a day.
I really like the curving spear.
This Trachy seems bulletproof.

Hey Barb ... Good to see it doing so well. These have proven to be quick growers for me too.
A bit of history on these "Nainital' form that I aquired.
A fellow enthusiast was in the midst of a divorce / separation and during his absence from home, none of his seedlings recieved any attention. I wound up buying the lot of near dead 'Nainital' seedlings from him in hopes of nurturing them back to health. I probably lost about 40% of the seedlings as they where too far gone. The others have made the recovery including yours, a process which took almost 9 years from then til now. Now that they're in fine health, the sky's the limit.

Interesting history, Barrie.
I simply cannot imagine his EX day-by-day watching/allowing plants to die.
But I also can't imagine him leaving without taking his plants.
Glad you were able to save over half of them.
The Nainital looks very robust; its Indian elevation genes--plus its early life--should
put it into the bulletproof category.
I'm thrilled to have it.

I've found the same to be true. Mine has grown faster and resisted cold better than any of my normal fortunei. They seem to resist insects better as well.

Mine are growing at what I would consider twice the speed as regular fortunei. I am looking forward to some good growth this year for the seedlings I planted out in the garden.

It's a keeper.
This guy laughs at -4C, and the spear kept growing.
