Trachycarpus fortunel v.s. Zone 5 winters
Just purchased a very healthy T. fortunel in a five gallon container. Planted it in the southern exposure, farely close to the house. I live in Spokane, WA., the past few years, winters have been a bit milder and below average. What extra precautions & care should I take for the winter coming up. I heard that the first two years TLC should be considered to get them through the cold winters of zone 5. Any information or your input would be greatly appreciated.
I live in Spokane, Wa., and love to grow palms and plants from all over the world. That can tolerate zone 5.

I would try to wrap the trachy up with burlap or something before you have a cold snap. Also a plastic enclosure would ensure some good protection for the first couple of winters until it the palm becomes more established. Hope this helps.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
