A couple Box Store finds...

Post by Knnn » Fri Jul 06, 2007 10:16 am

A half price Rhapis excelsa bonsai :?

A further look shows these were grown in 1 gallon pots and then root pruned.

Considering all, still a healthy plant, here it is in it's new home..... Getting low on containers, hoping my wife won't notice the flour canister has disappeared

This was just marked as a Philodendron.......from the bargain bin.

Whichever it is, had a perfect spot for it.

Steve, nice bargain shopping!
How clever of you to look at the palm's roots and discover they
were grown in 1 gallon pots earlier.

Philo looks at home in your GH.

Love the flour canister! :D

Cali ~ My wife has also given me that " look" far more times than I can recall :)

Barb ~ Some interesting things at WalMart this year in bonsai pots :) Did the pup off your Rhapis ever take root?

Ha! I was hoping everyone had forgotten I did that!
Just like you folks said...both Rhapis pups died a quick death...no roots at all from Mom. :(

I'll leave things as nature intended next time.

Barb ~ Nothing to feel bad about.... it will put out many more 8)

Your experience helps me out, I have one planted in the GH that is about the same size as yours. I was going to dig the pups up but will wait now till they are a bit bigger.

Thanks Steve

Next time, I'll pull the whole plant out of the pot, examine the roots with my fingers to
see where the pup has a sizeable fibrous root.

I was too hasty and simply took a knife and started cutting.
No wonder the things croaked

But my sago palm pups are staying with their Mom.
I'll take a pic soon.

A great looking plant you got there!
My timing must be off; whenever I've gone to Wal Mart most of the stuff is so picked over, half are out of their pots, dried up, mislabeled, no price, etc. etc.

You just got rid of 400 seedlings in your GH...
lots of room for more, Steve!

Trust you to leave the doctor's and buy a palm on the way home. :)
Attaboy.

Great buys there Steve. I am particularly fond of Rhapis. Running out of pots again, huh.

I hope everything went okay at the Doctors.
