Canary Island Date Palm, new frond edges brown?!

Post by lucky1 »

This is in sun most of the day.
I mist it once a day, several new fronds coming up, but why are their edges brown?
It was inside until the last frost.

That is normal with Date palms. It is not the leaf itself & will peel away in a week or two.

Yep, Laaz is 100% correct.
My PDP (from the same genre) does the exact same thing. As the leaf grows out ward, it will drop those brown strings and you will have a beautiful new leaf.

Yes, ours has it, too. Can be somewhat confusing.

Thanks folks (I was starting to sweat buckets that I had done something wrong!) :?
Now that you mention it, one brown "string" shown in the first pic is already falling off.
Whew!
Strange phenomenon nevertheless.
