Livistona chinensis Experiment

I will try overwintering the 2 L. chinensis without heat this winter and try treating them like a perennial and let their fronds die back over winter. The pale green/blue is 3" styrofoam box that I built that goes 2 ' into the ground to protect the roots from freezing.
I will be either adding a foot of mulch or building a styrofoam greenhouse around them. It depends on my situation in the fall.
The purple rhododendron is the price of admission. My wife wanted it even if it wasn't hardy. There was 'room for it with your palms.'
