Kansas Ice Storm
On another site I heard that some parts of Kansas got hit with freezing rain.
I hope that everyone here missed it.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps
I didn't
It hit on Saturday and has not really let up. However the nice thing SO FAR (knocking on wood) is that it is not the really BAD kind. This one so far is only bad on the vehicle windows and roads. Not much collecting on power lines and trees so far.
As it was hitting on Saturday, I went ahead and put one more heater in the greenhouse as it was 50 degrees at 4:00pm. By 5:00, I had it up to 60 degrees but have not checked on it today.
I hear that Oklahoma is going to get it REAL hard tonight

Weather
Its raining here but at night the temps drop and it turns to freezing rain and in the morning the cars and trees look cool. They are covered with a perfect sheet of ice but it all pretty much metls away until the sun goes down. Well I guess what used to be snow is now freezing rain global warming in all its many faces.

Central Kansas is having ongoing problems, winds tonight bringing down a lot more trees and power lines.
First time the power has been on here in 24+ hours, probably will not last long, but nice to have some heat

I kind of feel sorry for the weather that you are having. That vicious storm we had on Dec 3rd had strong enough winds to push the jet stream south and the 'Alberta Clippers' (cold high pressure systems) are hitting you as well as well as Illinois, Michigan and Ontario. Usually they don't push as far south this early in the winter.
The good news is that the temperatures are warm here, the wind speeds are low and we haven't sent any shitty weather your way in 3 days.

I was breifly watching KTLA news and weather, and Palmdale California is forecast to drop to 23f tonight. Many other locations are very chilly and even Anahiem (Disneyland) was dipping to 41f. Looks like the place to be is out in the SE. Laaz is sucking up the heat in Charleston SC with temps around 80f.
Cheers, Barrie.

I know part of a tree fell against the front of the house last night......All I can see out the front door is tree limbs blocking the door
Power is still on
I had to tie the wires back up to the house yesterday, it is going to be a while before the utility companies can start getting to individual customers.
Anyone hear from Wes, ( Kansas)? ......... Topeka had their share too.
Allen ~ Send all the cold down here you can, I'd rather deal with snow than ice

Guess what Steve? I woke up to +2*C/36*F yesterday morning with light snow that turned to frozen slush on contact. Then we got enough wind to knock people off of their feet. You won't be getting any cold weather from up here for a while.
Good luck to all of you. May it thaw quickly and you get your lives back to normal.

Thanks for the comments!! just waiting for things to improve so we can start the clean up.
Barb, I just improvised securing the electric lines back up while the power was still out. Unless someone is familiar with lineman procedures, the best advice is to leave them be.

I am back. We only lost power for 4 hours which is GREAT because there are still folks out of power right now. I have not been on here due to the fact that we have my mother and father in law staying with us as there power is still off. SO i visit with them all night.
Also, I have been working non stop as I am a Construction Supervisor for the CATV company here in Topeka. So I am working from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm every day getting things back up in the air.
When the storm hit, I lost power and rushed to put everything in my house hopeing that it would stay warmer there instead of the greenhouse. I got about 3/4ths of the trees brought in when the power came back on. So it gave me a chance to do a little Winter cleaning and got a bunch of dead leaves cut back.
I am expecting a ig shipment from Mr. Robert CHumley today so I am really excited.
