Forecast for next 5 days: 28, 29, 29, 30, 29. Its gonna be a steamy one here this weekend.

That is the weather we have been getting for the past few weeks...of course I don't mind the heat, the humidity is difficult but the palms seems to love it. We are supposed to cool off into the low to mid 20's for a while so that will be nice.
However, if you are getting it now, we will be getting it in a week or so, it always works that way.

Man...34 degrees on my North Okanagan patio at 3pm today...whew!
Dry as a bone, no humidity to speak of.
I've been misting the palms and cycads 3 x a day.

We'll send it to Edmonton and Calgary next!

This Afternoon's thunder storm was reminiscent of the storm I was in at Flintstone Park in Kelowna 20 years ago. The sky opened up and it poured for about 20 minutes. 15 minutes after it finished raining everything was bone dry again.

Flintstones Park! That was a fun place...gone now to big big development.
Okanagan soils are so light it can rain for 15 minutes before any water is absorbed, and then like you say, 15 minutes later it's bone dry again.

Our soils are like a waxed car, they seem to shed the little bit of water we get.

In a good year, Vernon gets 13 inches...
and we're in that rainshadow...probably 1/3 doesn't even land on the ground.

No damage from the t-storm I hope at your place, Allen.

No damage here. I would have preferred to have received more rain. Maybe I will get lucky tonight.

But after putting it off for years, we finally got an air conditioner tonight. I'm just too old, drugged and fat to put up with the heat any more. We drove all the way across the city to the mall to get one.

Yup, the heat sucks all the energy out of me.
You'll likely feel more energetic in an air conditioned house.

My friends who have AC are always sick in the summer, though.

My intent is to only take the edge off the heat and keep the house in the 22 to 24 range. I used to get sick working in 16 C air conditioning all day before going home to 25+ C temperatures. I'm hoping that the relatively small change in temperatures will keep me healthy.

Ya, what's up with offices whose AC is so cold you have to wear a sweater.

It's so important to get a good nite's sleep in a comfortable bedroom,
rather than tossing and turning all nite.

We're gonna have a nice quick 33c day tomorrow....ande Im goin to Calgary for tomorrow and friday where its gonna be 32 and 31. I wonder how my trachy is gonna like that. At least its in part shade.

I got caught with my pants down again. I started moving the 'portable' air conditioner to another window and am still fabricating the frame. It got down to 16 C last night and was over 20 by 7 AM.

I am going to have to root water again.

Yup, we wanted the heat, and here it is...36 to 39 C (100 to 102 F) today.
Yesterday was a cooker, 36, and we're on a South slope (whew!!!!)

My Trachy and CIDP get full sun until about 4 pm.
I'm watering them like crazy, they seem to be OK, no frond burn yet.

But I'm shading my new little cycads. They'd fry in this heat.

The continuous heat is just too much for me. Between the weight and the medication I can't work in the heat to get the flower bed finished. It is supposed to get down to 18 early this morning and I hoped to catch the first light at 5 AM to haul the last of the dirt for the flower bed.

I am up but it is cloudy and raining. I am going to grin and bear it as we need some more moisture.

I am glad that it is only 32 C here instead of the upper 30s like you guys are getting in the Okanagan and Idaho.

Allen yup it would be easy to overstress yourself. Take care.
It might be fun to finish that work in the rain

(versus the heat)
I can't get much done in this heat...work only an hour or two and then rest, drinking lots of water.

We've got overcast sky (light cloud) only but it is such a wonderful break from the relentless heat.

Last nite there wasn't a leaf moving, not a breeze at our place.
Felt like there was no air

Supposed to be ONLY 35 today.

I really shocked myself. There was just a bit of a breeze. Between that and the cool temperature, I was able to finish hauling the dirt into the flower bed. I will need to add 1 or 2 loads once the rest of the glass blocks are laid.

Then I went on to starting the palm bed in the front yard and moved enough dirt to fill in the hole that was left when we removed the Cherry bush and to raise the area enough for the rocks that will give the ground cover willow a little mound to spread from.

I still have a long way to go on the trench for the first 3" x 2' x 8' styrofoam sheet that will become the rear insulating wall.

The temperature is only 23 C so far and feels almost chilly.

The Edmonton temperature showing on the top page today is 4c (38f) at 10 am with light rain.
I'll bet those folks are feelin' "chilly" ... yikes!

It has been a cool late summer and early fall. It is not as bad as it looks as the weather in the city is 2 or 3 C warmer than at the airport which is where the readings at the top of the page are taken.

If it would stop raining, I could get more done. We are not getting enough rain to help the plants; just enough to make it difficult to work in the garden.

Warm and muggy here in S. Ontario...

There has been a continued pattern of summerlike temps here which should peak @ +28C/84F by Monday...

The downside is...the smog....

Please don't send us that cold wet stuff..

It did clear up during the afternoon and we had a very pleasant finish to the day. Some areas even very near-by didn't get rain at all.

I'd still swap a month or two of muggy humidity for a mild Jan or Feb (even if it is rain)...

That's one blessing here, when it's warm or occasionally hot, the humidity is moderate or low. All our humidity is during winter so no static electricity shocks here. haha.

Last night the temps peaked at 25C with 90% humidity...nice for the plants..not so good for the ragweed allergies...

For what I like doing..I'd still take the BC winters anytime...There's nothing like being out in the yard pretty well all year round...even in the rain!
