Germinating Dioon spinulosum

Post by Knnn »

Some more info here -- > http://www.pacsoa.org.au/cycads/Dioon/spinulosum.html

After an overnight soak the first germination was within a week, Must have been good timing :)

Cycad seeds are subject to a "hold" time after harvesting. This allows the embryo to finish maturing. Germination can happen quickly after the embryo has developed and enough moisture is present

Steve, I just got two of these with Softball size cadeux (sp?). You will like them A LOT!!!
The flushes are huge and the leafs on the flush each have a really cool, almost diamond shape, little extension on them.
Actually, when I took pics of the stuff Chumley sent me, I took a pic of the leaf detail. Now to just get the pics up on the net....
But, you will LOVE this Dioon.
BTW, I do plan on coming to Salina this week. Any chance I can sneek by for a look at your tropical rainforest?

Great job on the D. spinulosum! Mine have put down big tap roots, but none have pushed a leaf yet. Let us know how it goes...
