Musa Basjoo Going to bloom!!

Post by hasty22 »

It looks like my Musa Basjoo plant is finally going to bloom. This will be the first time after many years in ground. Not bad for zone 5 in Canada. Will keep updated!!

Awesome! Out here (zone 4) I've never got them to grow beyond 8' and stopped protecting. Might just be worth another try some day! Well done!

Awesome! I always think it looks like an ear of corn coming up the stalk.
I got three inflos this year. We had a ton of rain and the high temps, while warm, didn't fry any leaves. The bloom is bittersweet because that particular stalk will die, but you get the honor of saying you got to see a real banana bloom in your garden. How many people can say that? In zone 5 Cananda?

When's y'all's *gulp* first frost?

KrisK,
can you share a photo of yours?

And the Sabal "Lou" while you're at it.

First frost is suppose to be tonight. Have at least one more bloom maybe two. It is quite the jungle of leaves.

Awesome, never had that happen before. Only my musa velutina blooms here. Do you cut the trunks all the way to the ground?

Thats really fun!

The earliest I had a bloom was beginning of July...
unfortunately they need 6 months of tropical weather
to mature properly outside..

Yeah, I always cut mine all the way to the ground. May try to protect a couple trunks this winter.
