Some "blue" palms

Post by hardyjim » Sun Jun 22, 2014 8:04 am

There are very few palms that have survived winter here with strap leaves regardless of being covered.
One is Takil and the other is Tesan.

Interestingly this guy made it,I tried to pull the spear
but it would not come out, however it did not appear to be growing...this is now the smallest palm I have trunk cut.

Brahea Clara

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 0.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 2d74a0.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9624_zpsf82d74a0.jpg"/></a>
long way to go though....

Maybe these don't count as blue-but one parent was...
these 2 are Chamaerops Cerifera x Chamaerops Volcano.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... e75a52.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9629_zps65e75a52.jpg"/></a>

C.Cerifera-color always makes me smile on these...

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 2988ff.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9625_zpse02988ff.jpg"/></a>

This one had spear damage(pull) so close to the edge of protection>coming back nicely and getting a little trunk.

B.Armata

Working on its second leaf.
planted in April this year.

Very nice. Very partial to Blue palms but have a harder time with them for some reason. I keep trying though.

Great pics.

Nice Palms Jim :D How many leaves do you produce in a season on that Brahea Armata? I guess as the palm grows it will produce more leaves?

Very nice, Jim.

IMO nothing beats the blue of armata and cerifera.

Blue Mexican Fan palm that I brought back from California in May seems to like it's Southern exposure as new spears/fronds coming along at what seems to be a abnormal speed for them. We've had a warm, wet Spring around here so far so most palms are happy in pots or in the ground.

Thanks, love that species of Bananas. Easy to keep over winter in basement too. Local nursery is selling the balance of their stock of them that didn't sell. 2/3 footers for $5 cash and carry. Have been there twice now...........

They are really fast growers too...they just have more mass then other "banana" plants.

Sounds like a killer deal for $5,I saw a nice 2 footer in Az for $20,when I went back it was gone...
I did order a small one when I got home-I lost my 12 footer to a wet basement floor
