Pretty cool video of someone climbing a 100 year old persimmon tree in Hawaii,

They probably won't grow that big here, but curious if anyone is growing them and getting fruit in a zone 6b or colder.
Especially the larger fruit varieties.
Any luck with persimmon trees?

I planted dozens of Diospyros virginiana seeds, locally collected in NOTL, ON from a mature tree. I must have fifty seedlings, one year old. This here is zone 7a. In my yard though, we went down to -7f this winter, unprotected, the seedlings were fine, although an all-winter snow coverage likely helped.
Anyone want seedlings contact me, send me a p.m.

I'm not sure what to think of my hardiness zone's anymore. Normally the average coldest day of the year is -18 C (6b) here but this year we dropped to -25C (5a) one day, coldest in 30 years.
The warmest winter low I've experienced here was -13C (7b) almost an 8a. Yearly lows seems to vary a lot here.
I may have tried Diospyros virginian, or some other american variety. The fruit was very good, the size of yellow plums, very sweet.
Would the larger fruit Japanese varieties make it anywhere in Ontario? I think the one's I've bought from store were the Giant Fuyu.
Love the taste.
Nothing like picking your own fruit.
So far I have figs, strawberries, grapes, and cherries. Hope to add peaches, pawpaw, and persimmons, pears, apples, and blueberries this year.
And some of those 5 in 1 trees. I'm planning to underplant them with rhododendrons. Fruit trees can look drab in winter.

Unlikely if any Eastern (Japanese) persimmon tree would survive the Ontarian winter. I have one self fertile variety growing in a pot. Looks like I'm gonna get a few fruits by the end of the season...
I have two Diospyros lotus (date-plum) plants which planted in my garden this spring. So will see what's gonna happened to them...
