Post by Knnn » Sat Apr 21, 2007 9:16 am

Finally have most things out of the house, almost time to start worrying about keeping things cool ( instead of freezing

Even with cold soil temps it kept growing......... The one in ground on the side of the GH is starting to make me nervous, hasn't picked up much height but it is really starting to fatten up  May have to add a little more height to its area before the year is out.

Knnn,

Hello, I was wondering if I should remove some of the lower fronds on my T. Fortunei? I will send you a pic and tell me what you think please.

Nice Looking Palm!
I really don't have much experience with T.fortunei, just a couple smaller ones.
Generally I wait till the leaves have browned out before pruning. Might want to try this question on the main board. Some of the members here know more about Trachy's than I ever will 8)

Is that a Washingtonia or a T. Fortunei? It looks really good. I am off to buy a larger one this week....no one has Washingtonia around here. All fortunei.

W.robusta, bought as a 3 gallon last year at Lowes.
Wish I could find Trachy's locally here, do have some seedlings that are doing good, but probably a few more years before they can be planted.

We don't have Lowes here. Home Depot and Wal-mart we have but the palms there are not the good ones.
I look all the time

I never cut off fronds on a t. fortunei unless it is brown. If you want a nice thick trunk don't cut them off.

Wes North Van,

I cut the 2 lower older leafs off already. They were kinda browning. I won't cut anymore.
Thanks
