Trachy Hut comes down

Hughie wore his St.Patrick's day hat for the occasion.

Hasn't had any water since early October.
Fronds are folding lengthwise, sure sign of water need.

Let the growing begin...

Looking good, cant tell its even been through winter. Really hate to think you will have to change your protection methods next yr. I would really try building a second story onto the tracy box.

Looks like the trachy barely noticed being cooped up all winter. I'm sure after a drink and some fresh air it will look even better.

I have almost 2 weeks before my boxes come off the the season. Looking like the 28th at this point next week looks a bit chilly then smooth sailing. My small boxes will come off for a few days starting tomorrow. Probably got back on for Saturday.

Looks all nice and well mollycoddled  Mine has had to take all that the elements threw at it and more.... The -3.5c I attained was well quite devastating

Can you see which way the wind was blowing? :P
My Trachy Nova was well protected by my next door neighbours pine

Wow your trachy looks great. I sort of like the messy look. Sort of reminds me of Robert Smith from The Cure and his messy hair.

Looks good Barb, for you its more easier to protect those palms than us here. We have for 2 years in a row a really bad winter. With no big warm up till 1-2 weeks  ...palms with mummywrap will sure have dommages this winter. But those who i add insulation during this winter looks not to bad...

What were your current lows when you pulled that down? I'm still getting freezing temps and can't bring myself to open anything up. Heck, I still have snow in my yard I'd have to drag all my doors and plywood through to get them put away in the shed.

What were your current lows when you pulled that down?
-5C 23F four nights in a row.
After all those months in a box, with no water/humidity, bet it loved getting wet.
Snow melted within a couple of hours.

Also I had forgotten to shut the door for a couple of nights when temps dipped to -7 and -8C last month.
Days were above freezing though.

The forecast finally shows some good weather (compared with what we had so far). Sunday the trachy hut comes down for me too. I can't wait.

I've pushed back to Sunday as well. The wet snow we had today would have been been bad weather to pull the box down in. It's getting close and I'm excited.

Tonight I'll apparently hit -5c 23F the lows for the rest of the week are between between -4c 26F and -1c 30F. The days are getting too hot to leave the boxes on Tuesday will be 15c 60F I don't see the cold as much of an issue for a Trachy to handle.

Just curious as I unboxed my big boy today to see most of the fronds fried and I don't want to stress it any more than it already is after this winter. We're supposed to hit 20 tonight so I put the lights back on and draped them around the crown.

Oh no, Doug!

But you had C-9s on it in the box.
Did you have long power outages?

Hi Barb

your trachy made it another winter! 8) 8) 8) 8)

I bet it grows a foot this season.....how cool is that. Tell hubby to place a light on the winter enclosure so the planes don't hit it!
