I made good time on my loooong drive today and so spent the afternoon at the Mercer Arboretum and Botanical Gardens this afternoon.

It is about 20 miles/30 km north of Houston, Texas. Zone 8b/9a border under the new zone map.
I assumed they would have some palms but was delighted by the diversity. Especially strong with Sabal, as expected, including some true tropicals (e.g., S. maritiformius, guatemlanensis). Also, several Phoenix species. Four Chameadorea! Even Cocothrinax!!!! I snuck out back and saw a nice collection of Brahea getting ready for planting.
Anyway, I'll share a few snapshots now, and try to go through more next month, after my trip.
