Howdy all!
Howdy all! I'm a new member of this board from eastern Iowa and wanted to introduce myself. I enjoy growing most plants - and especially enjoy tropicals. Palms, cycads, heliconias and cannas are my favorites. I also have a few bananas and colocasia/alocasia. I got the bug after a visit to the Singapore Botanical Garden in 2005.
My first palm to germinate was a Phoenix theophrastii seed I got from RPS. It is pushing its first pinnate leaf now - lots of fun! Since then I've had luck with several different cycad genera as well as lots of different palms. I don't limit myself to the cold-hardy palms because none of them will survive here in zone 5B, so I figure I might as well keep my horizons as broad as possible.
I'm looking forward to advice from all of you. And possibly the occasional seed trade as well. I'll try to contribute too - initially I'll post some pictures of what I have been growing the last couple of years

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
