First wave of plants to come in...mostly Pachys & pics

Just the plants near the house for starters...they could(except the Pachypodium)stay out longer but I miss them in the house,they are part of the furniture!

About 4.5' of growth this year out of the Sequoia....less than 2" of rain the last 3+ months,the drought is back.
This would probably be 20' next year if we have excessive rainfall.

The "Madagascar Palm" in this pic is over 6' in the house
with its pot,quite a statement inside if you can carry it upstairs lol!

It has sent out(or is trying too)a flower-stalk,I don't know if this will develop or not
but with a little luck this will be a tree instead of a "palm" and should break into 3 branches yay!

Beautiful Fiddle leaf fig...I sprayed everything with Wilt-pruf before bringing in this year to imprison the bugs!

This A.Antarctica has finally bounced back after 18F 2 years ago...it was the only survivor.

Rowe Red banana did well inspite of the dry weather,probably because the soil is shaded there.

This Takil has pulled both of the last 2 winters.
It has recovered well.

The tallest Castor is just under 14'...the A.Havardiana put out 22 leaves this year and
the planted* A.Americana put out 12 leaves,not bad for sitting in the basement on a dolly all winter!
It did take a long time to get growing again... same with the Sago that also was in the basement in the dark-it downsized this year but flushed...

Evereything looks amazing! great work! Good luck getting ready for winter. Thanks for your advice on the castors. They flourished this year and are beautiful and colorful right now!

I love the Madagascar palm (Pachy) I was in the Peace Corps in Comoros Islands in the Mozambique Channel by Madagascar and I remember them well....amazing!!

You could take plastic from your porch eve to the sidewalk and cover the whole yard for winter.

Yup, that princeps is one princess of a palm...so beautiful.
So the Waggie, and the ... rest of them.

Stunning really how much your yard has filled in ... only a few years.

The stuff on the porch has really taken off too.
I remember your porch photos a year or two ago.

Happy to see you're taking such outstanding care of the Licuala.
It's not easy to look after them.

My Pachypodium lamerei looked dead from rot all summer.
I was about to toss it on the compost yesterday and saw green "nubs" on top, so it may live to die another year.

As to my sick Pachy, I'm convinced there are some plants that should be culled at the seedling stage.
They're never vigorous and eventually croak.
But I have a hard time just tossing something (although I often threaten to).

I could tell yours was an outstanding plant from the length of the leaves even a few years ago.

Re your fallling temps...how low are they forecasting?

There is a chance of some highs only in the 40s next week,we'll see.

40s would mean 20s at night is a given at some point-we would need to be very lucky(clouds)
to miss this-definitely T.fern protection territory but hopefully no Washy covering territory!

It will be easy to cover one palm though if I have too...
not worried about the Washy to much-it is the Tree ferns and
smaller palms I need to watch...the T.Ferns will be huge next year
if the croziers stay happy!

Found a faulty extension cord yesterday morning -2C 28F, C-9s were flickering.
At least I hope it was the cord, but replaced it so will have to watch.
Glad I saw that...better than in January when the Washy would be fried.

Once this Omega block in the west fizzles, you guys will warm up again.

The Pachy is up stairs,wasn't to bad,the Cereus is over 6' in the ground
and has many arms that can bang into each other and cause damage....so,
it presents a different set of problems its going on the other side from the
Madagascar palm....hopefully

Yea...I hope it does warm up,we will be running 10 to possibly 20F below normal
for a while but we have been quite warm before this,avg high now is 63F so even
normal will seem nice after this...if it returns.

Oh...also,your right about the T.ferns,they could be the size of the other ones
if they hang on,I was just looking at them today and thinking I want to protect more
leafage instead of cutting them down to fit rose cones..may have to scramble this week though.

Hope you increase protection size.
Is there any research on T ferns about cutting to produce branches (like other plants), and when does a trunk normally form?
For space constraints, you'd probably want branching to start a lot higher up.
