New RPS order

Post by canadianplant » Tue Jul 09, 2013 7:25 pm

I try to do an order for summer germination and an order for doing something in the winter. This is round 1

Chamaedorea seifrizii

Always wanted these. I apparently forgot i ordered these last year, and left them in the porch all winter....

Musa balbisiana var. balbisiana

Phyllostachys edulis (= P. pubescens)

Moso bamboo might not make it here, but there is only one way to find out..

Thysanolaena latifolia (tiger grass)

I want to see how it grows as an annual and houseplant seeing as its tropical. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/139650/#b

Fatsia japonica

Synsepalum dulcificum (miracle berry)

apparently a good houseplant, and somewhat rare. makes any sour food taste sweet

And just for fun:

Sequoiadendron giganteum

Bamboo for me has been really tough to germinate from seed. I have successfully gotten a phyllostachys kwangsiensis to take off its still under a foot tall I planted back about new years. But its putting up some more culms and looking better all the time. Apparently its touch as nails but I think I'll bring it in this winter and plant it out next year. My local nursery just got in some fargesia rufa I picked up a 1 gallon of that as well.

Ive had better luck with bamboo seed then I have for bananas or palms. Ive germinated Borinda fungosa and fargesia (borinda) yunnanensis. They are also the only 2 ive tried, so im hoping for 3/3....

I have a F rufa, phyllostachys "alata", and the yunannensis seedling in the ground. They get bent to the ground mulched and tarped up here, and do quite well so far!
