Clouds and Rainstorms

Post by lucky1 » Wed May 29, 2013 12:19 pm

Our weather certainly doesn't match the severity of OK and KS.
3 rainstorms = almost 4 inches rain.
Scary looking clouds.

Certainly nowhere near the devastation of OK and KS, but still unusual for us.
My heart goes out to those folks.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks Aaron.

Yeah, my heart sinks everytime I see the OK and KS damage.
Almost wish the people would pack up and move somewhere else.

Wow barb..... Seeing that makes me miss the rockies :( I cant believe how green it is and that you got that much rain.... I know what thats like, an average may we have about 74mm of rain. So far we have had 120mm, and we are getting another 80mm in the next 3 days. Thats roughly 8 inches of rain.

Thanks guys.

When that system arrived, a bunch of us were up the hill while the wind turbine was being repaired.
Dangerous working on a metal tower as that arrived.
I got the H out of there as the rain arrived, concerned about lightning.

The guys got soaked "right down to our underwear".
Said all they needed was some soap

I've rarely seen rivers of rain on grass...spectacular event.
Grateful for our rocky soil that day.

makes me miss the rockies
Our "mountains" are just worn down relics from volcanism.
We're in the plateau between the Coast and Rockies mountains.
Now THOSE are mountains!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountains
"semi arid" if not desert, but how odd is weather like this there
While very rare (with only 10 - 12 inches precip here annually), the last two or three years have been wetter and wetter, with more rain falling each time.
In a way it's good for us because we're on such a dry, rocky south slope with lots of wind (that dries things even more).

Saw s.Ontario on the weather channel this morning with their overflowing rivers.
All that will play hell with insurance rates.

Compared to what I have here those are the Himalayas. They are the same sortve idea as those, cept they were created when the kewteenan rift opened up (now the lake superior basin) a good billion or so years ago.

I guess for you guys who use wells its good to get the aquifers and ground water recharged... I can only imagine the sediment that flush in after that deluge...

Yeah, you're near the shore of the lake aren't you?

Wish we had a well...
water costs are horrendous in BC.
They've just announced a water infrastructure "shortfall" of $140 million...think I know who'll be paying that!

Speaking of aquifers being recharged, I forget the name of the city but think it was somewhere in Colorado.
They said it was against the law to have rainbarrels on roof downspouts, because "that's OUR water, and we need to recharge the aquifers".
Typical government BS...a few rainbarrels here and there.

Im roughly a mile or less from the lake. The city sits in a sortve half bowl surrounded by the mesas on all sides. Id hate to think of how cold it would be here without them or the lake...

I also think they recanted that law?

yeah, good point.

Re that Colorado law, thanks for the link.
Nice to see insanity disappear (occasionally) within government.
Had it remained, people would've ridden them out of town on a rail.
