Mike.... I have Begonia Luxurians too... a popular plant over here. It is also quite cool hardy easily surviving in my unheated internal shed, and yes it does look Schefflera like. Heres a mature specimen from Nick Macer at Pan Global Plants

Hi Andy,
that Begonia is really cool looking..................sure that's not a hybrid with Schefflera?

Its not a popular one over here which is why it came from the UK. I got a fatsia spider web, fatsia varigate and the begonia lux all in the same package. there all doing well for such a long ride. My begonia will take a looong while to look like that mature one its only about 12 inchs tall right now. I'm still looking for a Fatsia annelise if you come across one over there and you could send it..
Hi Andy,

Hi Andy,
I used the easy method.....top of the fridge.....my house is set at 71F (21.6C). So far it's the only seed to germinate. None of the RPS S. rhodo's have germinated yet.

Hi Mike............try Cistus Nursery (online) or Far Reaches Farm (online).
Hi Andy..........what can I do to prevent fungal infections?? I hope not to get that!
Hi Cameron.........no this is not S. rhodo. I did get the S. rhodo seed from RPS but NONE germinated and I tried 3 different batches with 3 different methods and none worked......(on top of cable box for heat, at room temp, and in moist soil in fridge for 6 weeks then at room temp). There isn't much data on germinating hardy Schefflera online except that some say the seed must be FRESH. RPS was dried. The seed I got from Andy was FRESH and germed. I'll have to check the records.....I think these seedlings are hybrid (S. taiwaniana x chapana).

Tim ....the seeds were Taiwaniana x gracilus. There are lots of antifungal treatments available in my part of the world but may be different to what you use. Just ordered another Schefflera Chapana from Crug along with Oreopanax Incisus and Fatsia Polycarpa... all Aralacea
S
I hope more of those seeds germinate for you..... you could become the first person on the North American Continent with a hardy(ish) Schefflera hybrid

Jesse,

Tim... those seedlings are growing very quickly. The mother plant here has produced huge growth.... this hybrid looks to be a much faster grower than other Scheffies.
