Is this a Musa Basjoo?

Post by teebee »

I got this at my local Rona (Think Home Depot or Lowes) yesterday. The pot is only labelled "Musa" The had more there as well. Just not qualified to say what it is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Teebee

Looks like "musa acuminata", probably dwarf cavendish. Not hardy but can be used as a bedding plant, just dig it up and bring it indoors for the winter. They grow fast....

Is there some like red striping on the leaves?

Look at the first picture, with the new leaf igor... you can see the red "Stripes" that the cavendish have when young.....

Not sure about striping but look like a bunch of red blood spatter on the leaves. I looked online at Dwarf Candish is looks pretty similar to that so I think you're right.
