Magnolia grandiflora '24 below'

Here are some pictures today of my magnolia grandiflora '24 below' that I planted last spring. Basically it had a wind break for protection this winter, with 100 mini Christmas lights wrapped around it (but I don't think they really did anything, lol).

This bud is nice and green.

However, these look brownish. Are they ok??

Hey it looks really good to me! I wouldn't sweat the brownish leaves, my BBB's get brownish leaves but they fall off and are replaced with new one's pretty quick once the weather stays warm...

Yeah, but do you have green buds, brown buds and half brown/green buds? Trying to decide what is normal -- which is alive and which is dead?

I have green/brown buds and brown/green leaves....
Here's a few pictures of my BBB's....

Little Gems on the other hand take a beating around here,buying them in Florida and bringing them up here I'm sure didn't help their cause...

Once the weather warms up they'll drop the brown leaves and grow new ones pretty quickly....
It's those prolonged artic blasts we get around here that does most of the damage

Mine turned kinda brownish too, but I think it's probably normal since there are many large specimens here, and they get a little brown if we have a hard winter.

I'd bet they will be fine. Although we never get cold like that here, we do get pretty cold. They grow all over here and they are never protected. The juveniles often look like that or worse in the end of winter, but always pull through. I have never seen one wrapped in my life and have never seen one die off due to the cold. Good luck!! They are beautiful trees and so fragrant!
