Lipstick Palm Seedlings update
After getting a dozen seedlings of Sealing Wax Palms months ago I thought I would share a picture and update. I keep them in seedling warming tray and always in water and inside a portable greenhouse to boot. I've only lost one seedling months ago. I've finally started to see new spears on some of the seedlings. None of the seeds I got have germinated but I've heard it can take up to a year for them to germinate.
Anyone else here on Palmsnorth try these??

Congrats on getting them to germinate, Scott.
I tried 10 seeds a couple of years ago, followed instructions i.e. "hot mud" and not one germinated.
Good luck with them!

Hi Barb,
What is in the picture were already sprouted as seedlings. I did get some seeds as well but non of them have sprouted...yet.
The seedlings didn't really do anything for the longest of time but are now starting to push another leaf, so I must be doing something right.
I just hope I can keep them going to see some Red crownshafts.

Scott, sorry that I forgot you bought seedlings.
I would've too...if I could get them into the country.
Look forward to seeing updates too.

New update since last one was in July. Have lost a total of 3 seedlings, mostly because they broke off at soil line. As you can see the Lipstick(sealing wax palms) don't grow fast AT ALL! lol but you can see difference between first post pic and this one in end of December 2012. Have had these less than a year.
Inside greenhouse with heated germination trays. Also have radiant heater in room to keep room itself at least 72 deg.
Blue Hesper palm seeds trying to grow since summer with no luck so far...
Close up of Lipstick palm seedlings and new growth(leaves) from plants. They are now starting to get some height to them finally.

Are those cages for "cat" palms
Very well done. Ive read many people saying theyve tried these and failed. You know whats harder then germinating them? Keeping them alive... They apparently need massive amounts of heat and humidity. The best place to grow them is a heated greenhouse.

It usually stays 80+ degrees in that enclosure. I have to really stay on top of keeping water in the germination trays so they stay damp.

Great they're still alive, Scott.
Red sealing wax palms like it hot and steamy. Like Thailand.
I'm trying seeds again...last year I tried them in "HOT MUD", but not one germinated.
Probably cold mailbox did 'em in.

I bought some seeds when I bought the seedlings, and none of mine have germinated either.

Well it's been a little over 6 months since last update. Haven't lost anymore seedlings, and I added a grow light above the seedlings and it's on 24/7 and the seedlings have responded to the additional light. I keep them wet at all times and it's always above 80 deg inside the mini greenhouse.
Will be anxious to see if the pick up speed with the natural longer days of sunlight since they sit in a East facing window.

Excellent Scott...yippeeeeee, they're growing.
Don't paint the trunk red; that'll come with time.
Good you're keeping them warm.
I'm in my SECOND year of trying Cyrtostachys renda seeds.
NADA happening. ZERO. ZILCH.
