And here's it's winter home. I tied up the fronds, put 2 sets of C-9 xmas lights,a small hearter run off of a thermo cube.
Then wrapped it up with plastic and bubble wrap. Oh and a ton of mulch too.
The last time i peeked it looked pretty good in there still......
Thanks Barb!
Yeah it came down to the wire when it came to protecting it last December. I tend to plant a ton of banans, elephant ears, cannas etc....It took me many many weekends to get all those dug up and put in storage before it really got cold around here, the rest of my yard looked like this:

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

All I gotta say is wow!! And we are neighbors. I live just north of you in Saukville, WI. That palm and those other tropicals look great! Here is how my yard looked in its prime this past summer.
Great looking Banana's. I have ZERO luck with them, other than the Eneste.
I did similar protection with my Mexican Fan palm, and like yours doing well. I was astonished on how fast it grew in the ground last year, so really anxious for winter to be over and see what it does this year. My one mistake is that it's too close to a slower growing Windmill palm also in the ground.
Be careful with Mexican Fan palm's. Mine didn't make it through winter #2. When the roots outgrow the protection and freeze, the plant seems to get root rot or something and just die. Windmill palms don't seem to mind frozen roots though.
wxman, This palm like a couple of others I wrapped the rootball in heat tape as well. Barb also schooled me on making sure enough area around the plant was covered and protected in some way, so have bags of mulch surrounding the protection.
Its still January though, so not ready to pat myself on the back just yet!
Wow thanks for all the great compliments!! wxman your yard looks amazing,it's nice to have a neighbor that enjoys tropicals as much as I do. You must get plenty of questions and compliments all summer long with the way you landscaped your front yard. Love the big windmills next to the house.
The mexican fan palm is a bit of a risk but I bought it fairly cheap 2 years ago and planted it in the ground last spring. I figure if I dug it up in fall it would be a gonner for sure left in my dark basement or greehouse over the winter.
