Just a few questions on seedling growth rate....
I have a few palm seedlings, few kinds of trachys, washys, sabal minor, and needle palm. As far as Ive read, the washys grow fastest, then the trachys, then sabal, then needle. In my experience, this isnt the case for the latter.
My needle palm seedlings have grown faster then my sabal, and at least as fast as my trachy seedlings. My sabal seedlings in a year and a half have barely pushed out 2 leaves, while the first needle seedling has already pushed out its first strap leaf, and is already starting to push out a second (a month, give or take since the leaf broke the soil).
Does this make sense to you guys who have grown these palms from seed?

As soon as the Trachys get divided leaves they will pull away-

My two 4-year old Sabals might grow one leaf a year...it's like growing new teeth.
Sabals like muddy heat/full sun, too dry here in summer when I only water once a week.
All my palm seedlings Trachies/Washies will pass them in no time.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Trachys seem to speed up after a few leaves. Trachys will win for sure over time.

Im mostly surprised at the speed the Needles pushed their first leaves. It took them almsot a year from reticle, root then leaf spear, but they are growing quite fast. I thought needles were one of the slower palms?
I hope the trachys pick up, its their third year, and they baely have 3-4 leaves, same with the wahys..
Last winter they were in a west window, so they didnt grow much, and they didnt grow much during the summer either.

Give the Washys all the heat you can and they will blast off.
