Jim, you leave your Black Bamboo out unprotected? I bought a big clump this year but after reading how invasive bamboo is, I put mine in a large pot and brought inside...where I might just keep it since it looks nice in the corner I have it in.
how long have you had yours?

It really does look cool at night doesn't it,as you know-the pictures don't do it justice!
Oppalm
I think that award would have to go to Bill in Mass,I think his palm enclosures for
Washys and trachys are getting close to 20' tall !

Second year(winter) for the P.Nigra, last winter did not get below 0F so it was fine
as were the Butterfly bushes which came back(for the first time) from all its branches instead of the bottom.
I may try to cover it if it(P.Nigra) looks to be windy and below zero but I may be out of covers

You can use garbage bags if needed Jim. Just bend it to the ground, as far as it will go, and use tent pegs and some rope to tie it down. One more snowfall like you had, and you wont have to worry about it

Ooooh, I love those night shots of the lights.
Almost like a little village...
No lights yet in the cactus enclosure...
Bamboo looks great ... think you said lows were 18F?
Thanks Jim and Tim for doing that.

The snow doesn't bother it,when it drops below 0F and it's windy is when it dries up and dies up....

Thats what I meant... if you get another snowfall like the recent one, the thing will bury itself practically !

I will probably wrap it if it gets below zero.
Last spring there was no die back and it regrew all it's foliage.....
actually, the only leaf damage on it now is from the heat and drought of summer
