New base for Trachy hut
Palm hut is going up on Sunday.
Needed to add a few inches as the Trachy's grown
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/8145956803/" title="007 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8330/8145 ... 920fc8.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="007"></a>
Got some 6x6s at the salvage yard that'll go on top of the crush.
Here's a pic from 3 years ago...think it'll fit this year?...

Hey Kent, nice to hear from you.
Looking forward to seeing pics of what you're up to with your protection.
Bet your stuff has really grown since we last saw photos.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Wow! Your trachy is getting impressive. I had to add 3 feet on to my largest trachy box this fall. My trachy is almost to the top of my roof.
Can't believe we're talking about protection already. I hope I won't have to protect mine until Thanksgiving weekend here. Still hitting the 40s/50s during the day and 20s/30s at night.

Yup...next year's going to be a challenge.
Next is the protection for the 2 Washies and 3 yuccas out front...tomorrow.
You folks with mild weather are fortunate.
Our nice temps are about to end.

Those are some great comparison shots, Barb! They really show how T. fortunei prefer being planted in the ground vs. pots

H already said it should've been planted at the other end where the house is 2 storeys...soon the hut will be taller than the house.
he suggested we could "drape" protection from the ridge cap.

the palm hut looks great........it will need another extension next season!!
they messed up the forecast last night.....was 'suppose' to be 28F or 29F but we hit 23F. I hope all is well out there. I did protect some things but would have protected better if I knew 23F was coming.

Both of your Washies have grown well this year in the 2 months we had blistering heat.
H loves the look of Washies, a good sign he might even offer some help with protection next year.

It worked last winter although it was a warm one. I had Christmas lights ready to deploy, but never needed them.lucky1 wrote:must be nice to have a Butia that actually grows...My Butia outgrows its protection every year

Looks great Barb, but you had better be careful! If you keep acqiring palms and other tropicals, you may be having to build yourself a "hut" to live in outside of the house....
