Yucca Gloriosa Variegata....strange goings on
In the space of a month my Yucca Gloriosa has gone from a fine looking juvenile specimen to something resembling a painter's pallette with a weird growth pattern
Here is a pic of my plant in July
A pic of the plant today
The only thing I can think of is that I removed a side shoot as I wanted to keep a single stemmed plant. Has it shocked the plant?

WOW...your garden is nice and green.
Shoshone Idaho weather

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Great looking garden Andy! Very odd that your Yucca did this. It appears that it's energy was used somewhere else and not in the main leaf head. Is the main leaf head growing again? Are more offshoots forming around the main trunk? Worst case would be that the main stem dies and a new offshoot takes over. Perhaps it was bad timing when you removed the original offshoot.
PS what's the broad leaf evergreen in the center of the first photo? A Schefflera? Very nice!!

Tetrapanex
<img src="http://weathersticker.wunderground.com/ ... rfield.gif" alt="Click for Fairfield, Iowa Forecast" border="0" height="60" width="468" />
Jim.... I would have thought the plant was a bit small for flowering with very little trunk but hey ho if if it flowers
Tim... Jim is also correct Tetrapanax Papyrifera. This is the T Rex clone. Can produce massive leaves. In my garden the mother plant lost its main stem in the December '10 freeze.
In the spring new plants grow from the roots... yes this plant can be very invasive
Thanks for your comments on my green garden This has been probably our worse Summer in years with lots of rain and low temps but we did have a week of warm sunny weather recently so we can be thankful for small mercies. I certainly would not like Jim's summer heat or his Winter freezes

Tim .... yours looks like steroidal form.. still very nice though
Jim... A lovely specimen obviously enjoying your summer heat. Those green Aloifolia behind look superb... lean and mean... my specimen looks like a bloated tart by comparison

I think yours looks fine, the leaf color is probably from fungus with all the rain there.
Mine looks like that sometimes coming out of winter.....

Very well,oh,are you talking about the baby from the seeds you sent?
I ended up with 2 from you and the one from Kory in Minnesota.
I will try and remember to get a pic of the 3 little guys.
I know one of them is the big momma hybrid, one is from Kory and the other
is one of the 2 left out of the 3 different seed types you sent.
If you were referring to the blue Yucca in the cactus bed the is supposed to be
the blue beaked Y.Rostrata.

You know, when you look at the growth of the cactus/how much easier
they are to take care of then palms,I sometimes think I should have made the
whole center island the cactus bed-that would have given them more room....
when they get big -really every plant in there could be considered a specimen plant.

If you could get some sun that sucker would really blast off!
Watch it as it gets older, they have a habit of falling over with all the luxuriant growth.
Mine snapped it's second year and still grew over 6' in 3 years!

Jim... what you see is how I received the plant. It was sent over from Germany. My gut feeling is that they had a mad ,bad, feeding session while in its pot... bigger plant more money for it
