And some seed started from ants. (Y. neomexicana)
The only yucca with ants and the only yucca with seed, and I had lots of yucca bloom, none of the other have seed.

Yes there was, I took pollen from the elata crossed it with filamentosa. I also saved some neomexicana pollen for the elata.

Interesting that your Y. neomexicana set fruit but other Yuccas didn't. Thanks to the ants? If it was moths you'll have holes in your pods/seeds. We'll find out soon!

Tim, I think It is from 2004 or 2006? Not much water
I can't say 100% ants are what do it, but I can say the only yuccas I ever get seed on are the yuccas the ants attack. The ants feed(they like aphids) on the plant right by the yucca, that is why it did not take them long for them to find this yucca when it blooms. The seed never has holes in them like you find yucca seed down south.
I talked to John (a plant nut) and he said he does not get any seed on his yuccas in Reno NV and his reply was becauase yuccas are not native to the area. I thought maybe because he lives in a bigger town farther south he would get seed off his yuccas. Really this is a small town with very few yuccas and I live far from population for the most part. I hope yucca moths find the way here, if they are not already here.

Wow, those are beauties. Since elata have the deep taproot, they don't transplant well. Has anyone had any success with moving a mature specimen like one of those elatas?
