What's wrong with my Musa?

Post by Jeff_Ajax » Tue May 15, 2012 8:41 am

Ok, had it in my green house for the winter and it was doing well, its been planted outside now for a couple weeks but the leaves are going brown much like they did last year. Is this a fungus issue or something else?

SUnburn. For me Basjoo seems pretty susceptable to it, dispite 2 weeks of dappled shade outside.

My other thought was also Sunburn. It's south facing with sun from morning till evening. I'll see how the newer leaves that are coming out fair.

Sunburn for sure but(just a guess)looking at the pattern of
damage, there could be white spider mites as well.....
Check the backside of the leaves very closely for webs
or any sticky substance.

The good thing is...when they are outside-that you can just
blast the undersides once a week and that should shut their
operation down or seriously hamper them.

I have been spraying it with an insecticide but kinda forgot for the last few weeks.

If the plant is also sun burned, is this something that most likely occurred from being moved from the greenhouse to outside on a south facing side of the house? Will the plant adapt as it shoots out new leaves?

I would have guessed sun burn too. New leaves will be fine.

Sunburn for sure. My musas and ensettes get it, lose a few leaves until more grow when outside.
Even my travellers palm gets it when first brought out each year.

Adam,

You have some travelers palms? One of my favourite plants. Can you find them locally (Beamsville) and such?
