Nice specimens. I uncovered all my palms today and my Musa basjoos. My largest basjoos is not as big as that abyssinian. How big is that anyway?

your plants look great Jim..............Your Y. aloifolias are getting really tall now........I wonder how tall they need to be to bloom? That would be so cool if you could get an Y. aloifolia to bloom in Iowa!!

Your Abyssinian is just HUGE! Keep us updated on that baby :!:

I bet your Sequoiadendron will grow 3 feet this season......it's gonna be a monster soon!

You did a lot of planting already...must've been fun.

Abyssinian, Pachypodium lamerei and that tall skinny cactus (name ????) among lots others.
Re: muscles, Rub A-535 for post-Abyssinian.

Your Graptopet....is beginning to flower? My similar-to-yours is Echeveria, still in the cold building, hasn't moved a muscle in 5 months.

Almost out of space? more palm seedlings waiting.

Nice work Jim

I'm assuming you overwintered the Abyssinian in the ground? What do you do for that exactly? Full greenhouse with heater?

Looking great Jim! You put your bananas back in already?!? You have more guts than me...

I'm thinking about putting in another needle palm (or two) this spring. Late April I am driving back down to Florida so I can tow the boat back up here to MN ahead of our fishing opener so I'll have the ability to haul stuff unlike when I fly back and forth. Surprisingly the Home Depot in SW Cape Coral has/had nice big 7-gal needles for only $48. These are over 3' tall and have nice trunks. Strange, the only cold-hardy palm that can be found in that area besides the washys and sabal palmettos some people have in their yards. It's really primarily royals, foxtails, and coconuts everywhere. I hope they still have those needles though, they were still there when I was last down a few weeks ago. I'm flying down next week for 10 days and I plan to buy one or more while I'm there and keep them at the house so I know they will be there when I drive back next time. It will be hard to resist stopping in north FL/southern GA to browse the big trachies where they are a dime a dozen though!

Also I think I'm going to bring my (currently potted) newest yucca thompsoniana down to FL and plant it. The summers are quite rainy but the soil is well draining and very sandy. I think it will do well there since my Minnesota one seems to thrive here with our humid and wet summers. Should be a good experiment and I bet I'd be the only one in the area growing one...

Wasting NO time this spring eh :D Weve been blessed with a good spring so far, why waste it right !

I hope things dont get too cold down there. The coldest its going to be here int he next 2 weeks ( if you take the long term forcast as truth :P ), is -5C sometime next week. The rest of the nights will be above freezing. I can only imagine that you would be slightly warmer then that!

Thanks guys/gals.....

I was kinda messing with yuz with the Banana plants, they are still in pots.

They are going in right where they are though, from left to right(looking at the house)
are-Thai "black" banana,Saba,Abyssinian and some greener looking
Thai black banana plants.

The Abyssinian was overwintered in the basement..............the forecast

Avg temps(forecast) the next ten days lows, 50-55F highs 70-80F.

The Yuccas are great-cactus too-they have been a real treat and way easier
than the palms to deal with, until you have to trim

Yea,why not get an early jump-I can put all the bananas in the basement in 5 minutes.

They are a little delicate for March but I have had them in by the end of March before.....

I can't see not having to take them and the Madagascar palm in at least once,
hopefully not for more than a few days but you can get weeks on cold this time of year.....

just doesn't look like it this year though,in spite of a warm winter......

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
