We may be going for the warmest March ever! Almost constant 60s/70s for highs for next week and a half when the normals are low 40s/mid 20s for highs/lows. We will end up being fully leafed out by April 1st if this continues - 30 days early! And of course, a picture.

Awesome job Wxman! I also uncovered my trachies this past week and they look as good as the day they were covered late last fall. We are facing a similar 15-day forecast here (60s and 70s as far as the eye can see). I think our climates are very similar.

What a luxury winter we had this year! I can only think of a handful of days that my trachys really needed to be protected. Probably could have survived this winter without being covered at all... Record warm winter, least snowfall that I can ever remember in a winter. There was never a time when there was more than an inch on the ground at my house the whole winter. 95% of the winter period there was technically zero snow. Just a handful of 1-2" snowfalls all winter. Dipped slightly below zero only twice at my house according to my tracking.

Meanwhile my unprotected yuccas have been actively growing for weeks now. Not a sign of cold damage whatsoever. The grass is even starting to green up in spots! I'll start a thread with some spring pictures of my in-ground stuff soon, along with some pics of the palms I have at our newly acquired Florida Z10b place.

What a winter,first one I could find( looking through 42 years) here where the temps never went below 0.

2F at my house and 0 officially at the airport.


Only 2 or 3 days below 20F in the Cactus enclosure, 14F once before they were covered and 12F after uncovered.

Isn't this just awesome Jim?!? Also funny how it is always colder at the airport.... (always that way here too). Officially (at the airport) this winter goes down as the 4th warmest of all time. I can remember a few nice ones in the early 1990s, but I don't think a can recall anything that beats this past winter. Some golf courses were open in February, I've seen motorcycles on the road every month including Dec, Jan, Feb. The only major snowstorm all season missed us here just south of the Twin Cities. We got a couple inches of rain and about an inch of snow at the end of it, the one that came through about 2 weeks ago. The snow was gone within a day or two. Meanwhile 30 miles north of here they got 10 inches out of it.

The storms missed us all season, and the real cold never came. Some lakes never completely froze over. There's many pissed off ice fishermen and snowmobilers in these parts! Up at the cabin (165 miles north of here) we had next to no snow too. I got the snowmobiles out on the trails only ONCE all season and that was just last weekend. Now the snow up there is about gone now too... We are the 5th one up.

We are getting rain now,looks like maybe an inch!

What a way to start off a week of mid 70s and possible 80F weather!

I am in the southeast part of my state too,second county up,third west of the river.

Hey guys, just uncovered my Windmill palms today, 2-3 weeks before the average. Normal temp. at this time here in Mirabel, Canada is +1c in the day and -9c in the night. But for the next 2 weeks, the forecast is +10 to +15c and almost no frost for the night, thx global warming...so i had no damage at all on the Trachy's. The lowest temp. was -23c this winter and with my protection, it went down to -6c so far inside the cage. Here's some video in youtube, but sorry is in french. But you can see the result.
