mini christmas lights
I'm curious, do mini christmas lights do any good for heat? I see lowes has them on sale for 1.88 with free store pick up.... if so, I may stock up for the future.

There are so many kinds.
Obviously if they're LEDs (light emitting diodes), there's no heat at all.
But for others, I look at the package total wattage in the string.
i.e. if 25 lights total 100 watts output, that's pretty good for a small enclosure or 8 inches below the spear in a larger enclosure.

Yea,it just depends on what you are trying to heat............
a strand of rope lights will not heat a single layer 3 x3' enclosure.
But.....
If you wrap them around a small palm and wrap with heavy insulation
it would probably be more than enough, depending on where you live.

Attaboy, Scott...just wait until you can't get what you want...then you start growing 50 or so of each from seed.have 4 more different (9 total) palms coming.
It's not a hobby, but an obsession.
Beats the hell out of laundry and dusting.
Jim makes an excellent point.wrap them around a small palm
But remember he was talking about wrapping ROPE lights (very very low heat) around palm trunk.
Don't do that with the ones that get hot to the touch.
And there's always heat tape (to prevent waterlines from freezing) that can be used to wrap a hardy palm, then lots of insulation on top of that.

For those of you near a Target store, I scored some 25 foot heavy duty cords that have a plug spaced every 8 feet. Got them for $6.00 (70% off). You can't even buy a regular extension cord for $20 bucks these days much less one that has as much insulation on as the ones I got. I'm sure it varies by store but there's other outdoor lighting stuff as well at that discount. I got a one to three adapter for 1.5 and a solar switched floodlight for $6.00 too. Time to stock up people!

Hi Benny, thanks for sharing your palms protection tricks! I've got a very rare opportunity comparing the Quebecois French with the Parisian language. It sounds different but .... Happy New Year!
