Potted up these newly popped seeds

Post by Kansas » Sat Dec 30, 2006 3:44 pm

2 Phoenix Dacy. Of the 10 or so I got from a guy, all but 1 have popped, but these two had grown so much in one day that the seed was being pressed against the top of the container.

2 Phoenix Sylvestri. Of the 10 or so I got from a guy, about 5-6 have popped. These two had nice fat roots.

2 Copernicia Albe. Every last one of theses popped, just two, much like the Ph. Dachy. had pushed the seed against the lid.

The rest that have popped, I am going to wait to pot up until they too push agains the lid.

Of the Medjools I got from the super market (18), well over have have popped, but none have the seed pushing the lid yet but I look for them to by Monday or Tuesday. Letting them cook a lil more.

BTW, all of these seeds except the Medjool super markets came from "Ortanique".
All I did was mix 50% seed starter & 50% Perlite, added about 1/4 cup of water, put into an air tight container of 3" deep, & 6"-6" square. Put on top of my cable television box. Had germination in one week. Seems the Cable Television box is the key

No doubt thats good quick results. I have my seed's in a furnace room, but the weathers been so darn nice that the furnace isn't running enough to keep the room warm. I am going to try the cable box method. My wife will no longer let me use the top of the refrigerator to germinate seeds.

I've heard of this "top of the fridge" method before on several forums. Oddly, my fridge never seems to be warm on top. So my wife CAN"T get upset.

Cheers, Barrie.

My cable modem box is about the size of a CD, so that's no good. Wish it was 1984 then my cable modem box would be the size of a volkswagen. ooops - maybe Al Gore had not yet invented the internet in 1984. I have a flat -panel monitor so I can't use it either. I'll have to come up with something soon, I am running out of patience with some of my seeds.

A lot of times VCR's or VCR-DVD combos get about as hot as my cable box do.
