That's great. I just noticed mine is growing back after it died from the winter.

Proof again we shouldn't be too hasty to rip something out after apparent winter kill.

. What was a minimum temp. during this badly cold spell in November? And what was the winter minimum? And the coldest month average temp?
As for " I don't know what this is yet?" I would surely say this is Pyrethrum (Pyrethrum parthenium).

I would rather suggest digging it up and hold this plant in cool and dry conditions indoor for the winter. Unlikely if it will have enough vital force for surviving another cold winter.

Thanks for the idea, but they are not good at transplanting. Plus I think it is to heavy for me to move.

I have never had any luck with j-tree suckers without a root, but I have a new plant comming from that same plants roots and will be easy to cover this year just in case the big one gets it.

It has been a very good yucca.

PS I still think the other that died would still be here if I did not water it so late into the year. The only other two yuccas I had that did not come back was the Y. torry and another j-tree planted by the new grass/lawn also.

i am very glad that your j-tree is alive!! my favorite yucca. from my experience it can be treated with root hormone and you can make new ones. take the cuttings of this tree and put the bottom of the cutting in the hormone and more on the trunk of the cutting,place it in the soil, low moist, good drainage, and in less of a month you will have new j-trees. good luck. just place them in a shade , not in full sun position .

Aaron congrats on your J-tree regrowing for you! It`s pretty tough to kill them. I`ve had seedlings come back from the dead sprouting new shoots. I`ve got a 3 gal. planted this year. It will be under protection for the first couple of years. One day it might be as big as the one you have

The bad thing about this time of year and my yuccas is as soon as the days cools down they explode with new growth. I don't know if my yuccas are the only ones that do this, but every fall when the weather cools from the 90's F all the stored energy explodes with new growth.
Makes me nervous this close to winter.

but i have few jaegeriana type seedlings.

hope that just one grows into the nicest j tree in europe. i've seen some brevifolias in austria,europe,and it looks good. very big problem with this yucca , is that they dont take transplanting well. once when you palnt it, is the best thing to not move it to another place. i moved mine few times, and ....

That sucks, build a hill about 3 feet high and plant it.

You are right about the transplanting. I have moved a few small ones last year and the root balls were huge!

So glad it liked the winter, It was one of the few yuccas I did not cover.

Nice update Aaron. Your J Tree looks happy. I'm always checking out ebay and see some nice specimen J Trees for sale for $289. I don't think they will tolerate all our precipitation and moisture.
