Another Palm tree enthusiast Kelowna British Columbia

Post by Okanagan desert-palms »

I took some pics today at a near by collection of plants. I was hoping he had some male Trachy pollen. No such luck. All his plants look great. I was especially interested in his Y.rigida. It`s been in the ground three years now. The Trachy I`m going to venture a guess and say this is the largest one in Zone 6 British Columbia. It was planted three years ago as well.

Jay this house is near Rotary beach on east side of Lakeshore Rd. Super nice guy. I`m seeing more and more palms, yuccas, cactus around the city. He gets people stopping by all the time "what do you do with all of them in the winter?"
Welcome Bill from Kenmore.

John that is spectacular growth for only 3 years...wow.
And what a microclimate too.
Mine isn't showing any opening yet to the flowers, obviously later than you being 35 miles north and higher elev.

Yup, gorgeous y.rigida, bananas and cactus.
Did you sell him the palms?

Maybe he'll join PN?
It'd be nice to have him aboard.

BTW have you driven past that place you and I visited?
The one with the palm winter protection?

I might be wrong in pronounciation but never forget this guy in a show "Royal Canadian Air Farce" were "Bill from Kenmore (yes, it must be likely misspelling)" has been performing... Barb, I know you know, please correct me if I'm wrong... Any way I'm just joking about any palms growers in Canada, except of Barb, of course and the others...

I'm so sorry, of course it's not about the cold hardy palms - it's about the nostalgia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qneD11pj4Y0&NR=1 . I love this guy!

Igor that was an hilarious video  . All the stereotypes of Canada. Sorry about the lost in translation understanding of your first message. I don`t think there are many people growing palm trees in Canmore Alberta being a zone 3.Here is an excellent video of where we live in British Columbia Canada. Barb that Trachy was planted as a 20 gal. You are the last hope of getting any Trachy pollen locally in the Okanagan. We might be asking Mike soon? How are your flower spathes doing?

Yes, Igor, that was hilarious.
That about explains what being Canadian is

John, good news.
I emailed Wes in Vancouver.
His male Trachies are in flower, and his females are a little later.
Hopefully we'll hear from him soon.

Mine's not doing much in this lousy weather.
Hardly moved at all.

Yes we are lucky to live here.
Thanks for the Kal Lake video, hadn't seen any of those 3 videos previously.

Now we just have to hear from Wes re Trachy pollen and life is perfect. :clown:
