Uncovered a few palms today!!

Post by wxman »

Sunny and 40F outside today so I decided to pull the enclosures for the trachys by the house. Should be good to go now until Thanksgiving or so. The black wall absorbs a nice amount of sun in the afternoon. Forecast is for 60F this week by Thursday!!

The one below just went through its third winter and will be experiencing its fourth summer!!! Hoping for crazy amounts of growth. The coldest it saw all winter was about 35F, although it did see 19F in November before I covered it and probably will see 20s this month yet.

Planted the one below in June 2010 so it just went through its first winter. Didn't do a whole lot last summer. Hopefully it gets some legs this year.

Grass stayed green and grew a bit under the enclosure this winter. LOL.

View of my yard. Will uncover the other trachys when the snow melts this week. They look great right now for only having mini lights as protection with poly enclosures.

Those Trachies indeed look excellent. Much better than mine.
I have a few palms that look like that Phoenix there in the last photo.
Looking forward to the warm-up and a summer of growth for your palms. --Erik

Good protection job Tim.

I bet that tall lanky Trachy has shallow thirsty roots, up against the house foundation.
The older Trachy's leaves aren't folded as much because roots are deeper.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

My guess is the newer Trachy will grow more compact this year.

Thanks guys.

It got down to 21F last night and rebounded to 38F today. It's getting its spring dose of "PROVE YOUR HARDINESS!"

Snow is ALMOST gone right now. I spread some piles out so they'll melt faster. :D
