Garlic for Spide Mites/Mealybug/Soft Scale?
It's worth a try, recommended by John (okanagandesertpalms) to tide us over until palms are outdoors and we can apply a systemic.
My big Foxtail has spider mites, just see the webs a bit.
I blast them with mist/water twice a day.
<img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5250/538 ... c2d204.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="DSC04364" />
I pushed the garlic into the soil after the pic.
<img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5210/538 ... 531bda.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSC04363" />
Then there's my fairly new PDP...and this damage is synonymous with Palm Weevil (hopefully palmetto palm weevil--which does some damage but seldom kills a palm, and not Red Palm Weevil -- which kills every Phoenix it finds). These "cut off" new fronds came up that way...a sure sign.

It's getting lots of garlic.
<img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5090/538 ... e1f3aa.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSC04367" />
...wonder if garlic should've been peeled... oh well.
Hopefully garlic oils will be adsorbed by plant roots and travel into its tissues, making them taste bad to chewing, sucking insects.
Or the weevils will be singing O Sole Mio...

Barb garlic clove`s work wonders as a natural "systemic" insectiside. Not a bug on any of my indoor palms or plants this winter. I also use a little coffee grounds with garlic on my palms and plants to solve the mealy bug or spider mites ect. The bugs can`t handle the garlic!

I'm going to have to try this as well.
These spider mites are the one thing that drive me crazy all winter indoors. It seems that nothing works on these guys. (It's like they're invincible) I'll be picking up garlic today and putting them in the pots.
Any recommendations on amount per pot/palm size?
Mark

Tobaccy water...no shortage of that around here.
I got really REALLY REALLY mad at bugs on my Calamondin orange a few years ago during winter, so.......
<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2150/225 ... 666168.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="DSC00922" />
Worked on the bugs!
But the orange tree died too

Question:
I mystified by why spider mites won't touch a spindle palm. Every year I battle these mites on all my palms but never one on my spindle palm. NOT ONE!! Even when its by the other infested palms.
Anyone have any ideas? What does this palm have that keeps mites off it. Can you make a miticide from a spindle palm?
I'm perplexed!!
