3 Needle palms

Here are three Needle palms I just recieved from Broadway gardens. Two 3gal and one 7gal. .Very healthy plants and great service also. I will be ordering more next spring from them.

Those are great looking plants. I regret not buying any needle palms from them when I took a trip to broadview gardens in spring.

Those ARE great!!
I do have a question. THose have a trunk and I saw on another board somebody's had a little trunk. The one I have is still a youngen but it does have a trunk. I thought these were clumping palms that grew the trunk underground.
Is it just a matter of keeping the leaves trimmed so the trunk can grow above ground?

Ryan Broadway Gardens will be getting more Needles,Sabals,Trachys next march or early April. Kansas I think the trunks reach a certain trunk height and then slow growth upward and spread outward with the suckers. The 7gal needle already has 4 suckers and the two 3gal have 2 each. I would not trim any palm fronds as they grow so slowly they need all the fronds for energy. I am looking forward to planting next spring they should do well here with our hot summers.

I too ordered from Broadway and was very happy with their service.
I will be ordering more from them too. Let me know when they get more in.
Did they send them bare rooted? Mine they did and it transplanted well. I did get some browning on some of the older fronds but it looks OK now.
It will be interesting to see how they do throughout our winters. Mine is planted in the ground.
I will probably put a rain cover over it in December and January, our two cold months. Just in case.

Wes I had them shipped in their pots so as to have no root disturbance at all. I was quite surprised to see that the soil was still moist after 6 days ground shipping. I agree that they should have overhead protection to protect the spear from the freeze thaw cycle. Needle palms are such a rarity on the west coast.I`m looking forward to great results with them here in Kelowna.

Hey John, I picked up a brown turkey fig plant at Ricks garden world that was on sale ($7.00). They have a few left if your interested in figs.

Jay thanks for the info on the fig trees at Rick`s. We should get together for an order of Sabal minors and some needles for the spring.
