High of 13F or -10.5C on Wed and a low of 0F or -17.7C This is the kind of thing that hurts plants. I still have flowers out. Same thing happened last year. And it snowed today.
Where is my global-warming. We need to burn some tires. JK

Aaron that sudden temp drop does hurt plants.
A foot of snow would help with insulation.
Have you ever thrown an old blanket or two over your Y.rostrata, brevifolia etc. for these early and sudden temp drops?

I don't with the bigger plants, unless it drops to say -10F/-23.3C but I do have a bunch of towels that I will put over the smaller plants come wed. I don't want to make babies out of my plants. They gotta be tough or die around here.lucky1 wrote:Aaron that sudden temp drop does hurt plants.

Thanks Jay.
That's the only funny thing about the cold...the smilies.
Like they say "a picture tells a thousand words"... or in this case, a thousand BRRRRRRs.
Poop, it's cold, and getting colder.

The Okanagan's windchill overnight will be -27C -17F
plus it looks like Vancouver is breaking a 25 year record for cold tonight.
Yikes...look at this Vancouver palm in snow/wind (CBC lousy pic):

That's not fair! I want snow! Why can the West Coast have the cold and snow and all we get is lousy rain (at least it was above 10C, had it been below it would have been unbearable)? We want our weather back !
Seriously though. I do want to be able to skate on the pond in time for xmas. Give me that much at least! All I'm getting is this (we might get a freeze over the next few nights):
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourte ... k_st_14day
At least the garden is seeing some solid sub-freezing temps:

Mike, thanks for asking... I would call it SMOG. An airport area is the lowest, the coldest, the most polluted, the less developed part of the city. Too many poor people populating this area have no money for using natural gas for heating mostly coal or fire wood, or even plastic trash, so sad.sidpook wrote:

Can anybody beat this spread for November?
High: 23.6 C, 74.5f
Low: -30.8 C, -23.4f
Actually, by the sounds of it Aaron might be close.

It gets cold there also, they had a low the other night of 21F/-6.1C. But I think 21F there is nothing like 21F here. It does not say that cold for very long and warms up in the day time.

Good for you, Aaron.as soon as I pay off our house
Careful what you wish for...we're "done" (happily).
Then one day we woke up and we were old, but at least we still wake up.
Seems the worst cold is behind us for now.
Coldest was Nov.23 -19.3C -2.7F
Windchills were brutal though...easily -25C.
Temps creeping up slowly.
Nov.24 -17.7C
Nov.25 -12.2C
We're supposed to be near freezing for a high by Saturday.
Our 14-day f'cast shows below normal.
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/cabc0312
Might be a heck of a long winter.
Seems your worst weather parallels ours; you just don't get it very often, which is great.

They have a very interesting climate. My nieghbors had a low of 18F/-7.7C last year and the year before they had 12F/-11.1C. But yet they grow aloes, saguaros, w. robutas, w. filiferas, dactylifera palms etc. What blows my mind is that 30/40 miles away in the town of Bisbee there are 2 palms that have seen -9F/-22.7 in 1987. They are 85 years old and look like the have never seen cold before.igor.glukhovtsev wrote:Thanks for your Pearce AZ weather sticker. At least I know that a town at 31° 54′ 18″ N has a such terrible climate. I could not believe!

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Aaron, and what kind of palms they are? And I'm wondering what particularly agaves and yuccas grow there?DesertZone wrote:They have a very interesting climate. The palms are filiferas, but they grow just about any yucca and agave you can think of. Of cource that -8F was a very rare thing but....igor.glukhovtsev wrote:Aaron, and what kind of palms they are? And I'm wondering what particularly agaves and yuccas grow there?

Well... we broke another record. Old record 3F/-16.1C had -2F/-19.4C here. I can already see heavy burn on all of my yuccas. Normaly I don't see burn untill late winter early spring. We will see what makes it to spring, if anything lives that long.
Between work and weather I could not cover all that I wanted to.
